   I have seen a little contraption used to pick up pecans (similar size) in Texas. It has a flexible wire basket on one end, and you push it down over the nuts; the wire will flex, and the nuts will pop into the basket; when the wire returns to normal, the nuts will be caught without catching the grass or other things (for the most part). You can get quite a few nuts into the basket before you have to empty it.

   You bend over and grab them. They are too heavy to pick up with a vac. You could either rake or blow them onto a tarp, then haul them to the street (or bag them) to be picked up.

   by hand, that is if you haven’t many. If you have a plantation of hickory trees & you plan to mass produce for re-sale, then check out the many machines on the web that vacuum,ie nursery’s, etc.
