First he must attend a university and get a degree in landscape architecture. That is a five year course. After that, he must pass the exam, a rigorous exam that takes place over several days. The license is after that.

Why? Because he wants a more prominent career? Or because he wants to make more money? Making more money as an L.A. is a mixed bag. You have to underbid you competition to get the job and profit margins can be extremely narrow.
Owning a landscape company let’s you run crews and make money off your labor. It’s pretty lucrative and you can make as much money as you want to. You just have to remain dedicated and ambitious.
*Edit* please don’t put words in my post. This is why I wrote things like “can be a mixed bag” and “can be extremely narrow.” It’s nice that you are taking the positive approach. I’m taking the seen it, been there, done it approach.

It is amazing how inaccurate the responses people provide:

you only need a minimum of an Associates degree in Landscape Architecture to qualify for the educational requirements to take the LARE.

If what she says is true about competition, all registered landscape architects who owns their own installation company will be out of business. It does happen in the industry, but whether you are a licensed landscape architect or not should not factor in how the installation business runs or profits.

Since you said your boyfriend already have a landscaping business, he should have his business license in place already. You can always make your company name change if you so desired at your State’s Corporation Commission.
